The RACI matrix is a powerful tool for clarifying roles and responsibilities in projects and processes, ensuring everyone knows who does what. It stands for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed – four distinct roles critical for successful collaboration and minimizing confusion.

First, the **Responsible** party. This is the individual or team who actually *does the work* to complete the task or deliverable. They are the doers, executing the activity, and there can be multiple "R"s for a single task if it requires joint effort or diverse skill sets.

Next, the **Accountable** person. This is arguably the most crucial role, as there can only be *one* Accountable person per task. This individual is ultimately answerable for the correct and complete execution of the task. They have the final authority to approve the work or sign off on its completion, even if they didn't do the work themselves. Think of them as the ultimate owner, ensuring the buck stops with them.

Then we have **Consulted** stakeholders. These are individuals whose input, expertise, or perspective is needed *before* a decision is made or work is finalized. Communication with Consulted parties is typically two-way, involving discussion and feedback to ensure their insights are incorporated or considered. They provide critical context or specialized knowledge.

Finally, the **Informed** group. These are people who need to be kept up-to-date on progress, decisions, or completion *after* the fact. Their role is passive; they don't provide input or approve, but simply need to be aware of developments. Communication with Informed parties is generally one-way, often through status updates, reports, or meeting minutes.
